The logo for
the city's 50th anniversary celebration will
be unveiled Monday evening at a meeting to
discuss possible projects and activities to
mark the occasion.
Earlier this
month, more than 100 people attended an
initial public meeting to discuss the 2006
celebration.
A second
meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday
at the Fremont Main Library, 2400 Stevenson
Blvd. City officials are expected to
officially announce the City Council's
decision to provide $10,000 in seed money
for the celebration.
"The current
budget constraints of city government
prevent us from
underwriting
the entire celebration," Mayor Bob Wasserman
said in a statement released by celebration
chair Irene Koehler, "but the council was
eager to provide seed money as a foundation
upon which the community can build the
funding structure."
Koehler was
selected to head the steering committee that
will coordinate anniversary plans. Sue Chan
will serve as vice chair. City Councilmember
Dominic Dutra, who organized the first
meeting and has been meeting with the
steering committee along with council
colleague Steve Cho, will serve as an
adviser to the committee.
A large crowd
is expected Monday for the second
public
meeting on Fremont's 50th anniversary
celebration, and organizers have asked that
attendees RSVP to
