FREMONT —
Celebrate Fremont, the community-based
planning organization for Fremont's 50th
anniversary celebration, will hold a public
meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the
Saddle Rack nightclub.
The bar
will be closed, and families are welcome to
attend the meeting, organizers said.
"This
meeting will be very different" from the
organization's previous community meetings,
said Irene Koehler, chair of the Celebrate
Fremont executive steering committee. "We
will present an overview of the exciting
events and activities taking place during
this historic 50th anniversary year."
At the
meeting, members of the community will be
given a preview of the admission-free 50th
anniversary event called "Celebrate Fremont
@ the Park," scheduled for Sept. 9-10 in
Central Park. Those wishing to attend the
meeting should R.S.V.P. by sending an e-mail
to
rsvp@celebratefremont.org or by calling
(510) 790-9352.
"Until now,
we have been talking in concepts. Now we
have some definite plans to report for
'Celebrate Fremont
@ the Park,'"
said Councilmember Anu Natarajan, event
committee chair. "We'll talk about logistics
and volunteer opportunities. It is shaping
up to be two days packed with fun and
excitement."
Those who
attend Monday's meeting also will be able to
participate in a raffle for prizes, and they
may join the list of volunteers working at
"Celebrate Fremont
@ the Park." Local restaurants will
provide light refreshments at the meeting.
For a small
donation, meeting attendees can ride the
Saddle Rack's mechanical bull, or they may
bring pennies, tokens and coins from their
countries of origin to add their own
personal touch to the Fremont Art Car, a
mobile art project on a vintage van.
