Wrapping up a year of projects, the
Celebrate Fremont 50th heritage team will
host a presentation Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the
Fremont Main Library Fukaya Room. A donation
of the "Fremont Stories" three digital video
disc sets and "Our City, Fremont: A Photo
Tour" books will be officially presented to
the Fremont Main Library manager, Angela
Yang, to make available for the public to
use, and to a Fremont Unified School
District representative for elementary
school teachers to use as a resource for
their California history curriculum.
The Celebrate Fremont heritage team will
present the conclusion of the "Fremont
Stories Oral History Project" featuring
videotaped interviews "Capturing the Moment"
collected at the Celebrate Fremont @ the
Park, where residents and visitors share
their experience of Fremont's 50th
anniversary celebration and their special
memories.
The participants of the "Fremont Stories"
interviews will also be presented with
copies of their original un-edited
interviews as a family keepsake.
"The heritage team's contribution to the
success of Celebrate Fremont is obvious.
With passion and dedication, the volunteers
spent countless hours bringing to life the
rich history and heritage of Fremont and
recorded this for posterity. This research
and analysis, while enriching in itself,
provides a perfect starting point to
planning Fremont's future," Fremont City
Councilmember Anu Natarajan said.
The "Fremont Stories" set of DVDs featuring
interviews collected during the anniversary
year, reflect three eras of Fremont history:
Washington Township through 1955, The New
City: 1956-1977, A United Nations City:
1977-2006. The Fremont Stories DVDs are
available for purchase at the Museum of
Local History. For more information on the
DVDs, contact Patricia Schaffarczyk at
677-8461.
The Fremont Heritage historic districts bus
tours will wrap Saturday, Dec. 16 with tours
of Mission San Jose and Warm Springs in the
morning and Irvington in the afternoon.
"Our City, Fremont: A Photo Tour," the
companion book of the bus tours that allows
for "on your own driving tours," is
available for purchase at the Museum of
Local History, Niles Essanay Silent Film
Museum and The Shinn House Park and
Arboretum.
