Celebrate Fremont's 50th Anniversary

Sing Tao Daily, July 7, 2005

The city of Fremont is the second largest city of Alameda county in the East Bay. Its population and economics has been growing rapidly since January 23rd 1956 and is about to exceed its neighbor Milpitas. A Celebrate Fremont Committee has been established to plan for the anniversary celebration events. Their planning projects have proceeded smoothly so far and have garnered a lot of support from many local institutions and companies.

Celebrate Fremont Committee is formed by community volunteers. The Vice Chair Suzanne Lee Chan revealed that many celebration activities plans are under way in a grand manner. The first celebration activity will be a Gala scheduled for January 20, 2006. And the peak of the anniversary celebration will be held in the Central Park on September 9th and 10th.

She disclosed that obtaining enthusiastic donations has been quite successful progress. They received $10,000 each from the City of Fremont and the NUMMI. Also, they recently held a fund raising banquet, which gained a lot of passionate support. There were six major institutions  which donated $50,000 each. They are Santa Clara Development, Fremont Bank, SummerHill Homes, Catellus, Dale Hardware and Ardenbrook,Inc. In addition, there were donations of $25,000 $10,000 and $5,000 contributed by other institutions.

The Chairlady of the committee, Irene Koehler was thrilled by the enthusiastic fund raising response and support of the business community. It demonstrates the generosity, the zeal, the care and the belief in the City of Fremont from our community.
